Creative Writing & Poetry Competition
June 6, 2026

Purpose
Students read novels for exam but never write their own stories. Creative Writing Slam gives voice to student writers. NGO “Write 4 Life” runs workshop + competition.
- Target: students who love English but are shy.
Workshop Phase
3 sessions before contest
- Character Building – How to create hero with problem.
- Show, Don’t Tell- Replace “she was sad” with “tears dropped on her WAEC slip”.
- Poetry Basics – Rhythm, imagery, performance.
Competition Night
Students submit short story 500 words or poem 20 lines. Top 15 perform live on stage with mic. Judges = English teacher + poet + student vote. No topic restriction — stories about school life, dreams, family.
Publishing
Best 10 entries published in school magazine “Young Voices”. Winners get notebook + pen set. School reads 1 winning poem during Monday devotion monthly.
Impact
Students who hated English now write daily. Bullying victim writes poem and other students support her. School discovers hidden talent. Alumni submit entries too.
